About

Cooking with preschoolers can be an interesting way to introduce and practice a range of concepts, skills and ideas, plus it’s great fun!

In this workshop, we’ll share with you a selection of both process and group cooking activities to bring back to your centre. All the recipes are easy, appealing and suitable to do with young children in the classroom and at home.

These are some of the benefits to involving children in cooking activities:

Children can practice and hone their cooking skills and develop confidence in the kitchen;
Cooking introduces many mathematical, scientific and linguistic concepts in a real-life situation;
Children can begin developing the skills to become independent in preparing their own food;
Cooking can be used to promote healthy eating and establish a positive relationship with food;
Children who help to prepare new foods are more likely to taste and enjoy them.

Perks for teachers, cooks and carers:

Our workshops count towards the Healthy Heart Award’s professional development strand;
During this practical workshop you’ll engage in the food preparation with other participants, while sharing tips and tricks to give you ideas and confidence for making the most of cooking with preschool children;
Every attendee receives a certificate of attendance which can go towards teacher’s registration.

We’ll be preparing (and tasting!) a selection of recipes and some will involve products such as flour, so please bring an apron if you’d like to protect your clothing.

$55 p/ person

If you’d rather us invoicing your centre directly instead of purchasing tickets through our online shop, please email us at admin@cleanplate.co.nz, including the name of your early learning centre plus number and name of attendees and we’ll send you an invoice.

All our professional development courses are tailored to early childhood education professionals, including teachers, cooks and managers but are also suitable and valuable to parents and carers, e.g. nannies, au pairs, home-based educators.

We can deliver all our workshops in-house, including parent evenings, and have special group prices for numbers over 10 attendees. Just let us know your preference.

Clean Plate specialises in menu planning and workshops to support and encourage healthy eating in early childhood. Workshops are presented by Fern and Susan, who have both worked on the early childhood education sector as chef/ health promoter and ECE teacher/ manager, and are passionate about sharing their knowledge with others. To find out more about Fern and Susan’s backgrounds and experience, please check their profiles on our website.
