Sign-based Communication To Promote Inclusion For All Tamariki
When?Start time: Wednesday 6:30pm (06 June)
End time: Wednesday 8:30pm (06 June)
This Inspiring Minds Session will offer practical, efficient solutions suitable for all New Zealand tamariki to effectively communicate. Current initiatives focus on oral language, but language is more than talking, it’s about communication.
It’s about supporting all New Zealand whānau and kaiako to listen to the way in which tamariki express their needs, wants, and emotions.
A Sign-based communication system is used to create a language rich environment. This supports not only tamariki with speech and/or expressive language impairments, challenging behaviours, or English as an additional Language but all tamariki.
This course is designed to be fun, interactive, and informative. It will touch on some of the solutions that can be used with your tamariki. It will cover language vs communication. You will also be introduced to NZ Key Signs© a sign-based communication system to create a language rich environment.
